AMBER
Amber, or rav as it is also called, is a relatively soft stone, especially when compared to precious stones such as diamonds or sapphires. This means that amber can easily be scratched, or even break, if for example dropped onto a hard floor. When rav was created, 20 – 50 million years ago, it was secreted resin which means it is an organic stone, a natural material. This also means it is slightly more sensitive and should be treated with care.
How to best care for your amber:
Like silver, amber is best take care off by wearing it. As amber is an organic stone, some changes can occur in color after being in contact with skin. Air humidity is also a factor for amber, similar to silver. If possible, it is therefore best if you store your amber jewellery in a separate box or bag, and not in a bathroom.
The stone can be cleaned by using lukewarm water or a dry piece of cloth. If you think your amber has lost some of its shine, you can use a little bit of oil to polish it. Chemical solutions can have a drying effect on amber. If possible, try to avoid subjecting the stone to perfume and hairspray.
